Polo on snow is played in only a very few places in the world, such as St Moritz, Cortina d’Ampezzo or Aspen. Zakopane joined this exclusive club last February. The success of the competition was beyond all expectations, as 2,000 spectators watched it.
Ancient Persia is considered to be the cradle of polo. In the modern version of the game players ride horses and hit the ball with bamboo clubs. A match on snow looks similar to a classical game on the grass, except for the ball, which is made from bright orange plastic.
Matches are very spectacular, as fountains of snow burst from under the horses’ hoofs, and the spectators, amazed at the exotic character of the competition, are surrounded with the atmosphere of luxury.

W polo na śniegu gra się tylko w kilku miejscach na świecie, jak St. Moritz, Cortina d’Ampezzo czy Aspen. W lutym zeszłego roku do tego elitarnego grona dołączyło Zakopane. Sukces zawodów przeszedł najśmielsze oczekiwania, obejrzało je blisko 2000 osób.
Za kolebkę polo uważa się starożytną Persję. We współczesnej wersji zawodnicy rywalizują na koniach, a do uderzenia piłki służą bambusowe kije. W meczu na śniegu wszystko wygląda tak samo jak w klasycznym polo na trawie, za wyjątkiem piłki, która jest wykonana z jaskrawopomarańczowego plastiku.
Rozgrywki są bardzo widowiskowe, spod końskich kopyt tryskają fontanny śniegu, a zadziwieni egzotycznym charakterem zmagań widzowie otoczeni są atmosferą luksusu.

Als Polo-Wiege gilt das antike Persien. In der heutigen Version benutzen die Teilnehmer, die auf Pferden miteinander wetteifern, zum Schlagen des Balles Bambusstöcke. In einem Spiel auf Schnee sieht sonst alles genauso aus wie beim klassischen Polo auf Rasen, bis auf den Ball, der aus knallorangenem Plastik besteht.
Die Wettkämpfe sind sehr spektakulär, die unter den Pferdehufen spritzenden Schneefontänen und der exotische Charakter des Spieles faszinieren die Zuschauer, die von einer Atmosphäre des Luxus umgeben sind.
